In a world where stress, anxiety, and burnout have become the norm, a profound and ancient healing practice is making waves…literally. Sound healing, once relegated to mystical corners of wellness, is now taking center stage as more people seek holistic ways to restore balance and inner peace. From crystal singing bowls to frequency-based therapies, vibrational healing is proving to be more than just a trend…it's a powerful modality with deep roots in science and spirituality.

One of the most luminous voices leading this movement is Jeralyn Glass, a classically trained musician, former opera diva, and Broadway singer who has taken sound healing to an entirely new level. But her path to this work was born from heartbreak. After the devastating loss of her only child, Jeralyn turned to crystal singing bowls as part of her healing journey. Through the resonance of sound, she discovered a way to transmute grief into purpose, and in doing so, she became a pioneer in the realm of music as medicine.

Now, with her new book, Sacred Vibrations: The Transformative Power of Crystalline Sound and Music, Jeralyn is sharing her wisdom with the world. The book is more than just a deep dive into sound healing—it’s an interactive experience filled with practical techniques, meditations, and insights from top scientists and experts.

In our in-depth interview, Jeralyn opens up about the transformative power of sound, her personal journey, and why vibrational healing is resonating with so many. Whether you’re new to sound baths or already immersed in the practice, her insights will leave you attuned to the limitless potential of sound as a tool for healing and self-discovery.

Your journey from opera diva to sound healer is so unique. Could you share how this transition unfolded and what led you to discover the power of sound as medicine?

I have been playing the Crystal Alchemy Singing Bowls since 2006. When I first heard them, I fell in love with their exquisite, enchanting sound. I bought myself a set of seven and brought them back to Germany, where I was living at the time. I began sharing them with my students, friends, and my young son, who was only seven. I loved them as musical instruments. They were highly unusual ethereal, soft, poignant, and clear. Seemingly without effort, their sounds connected me to my soul. But I could never have imagined how these bowls would shape my life in the years to come and how I would take my knowledge, experience, and my wisdom to become a leader in the field of sound and music as a healing modality. I write in my book Sacred Vibrations in chapter 1, “Grounding”, about using them to warm me up for a performance of a lifetime- a jump-in for a sick colleague at the Munich Philharmonic on New Year's Eve, one of the most important concerts of the year! They held me steady and enabled the performance of my dreams.

I have always known that music made me feel good and uplifted me. And singing was my absolute love and happiness. I discovered a very personal balm of music as medicine through Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. While I was pregnant with my son Dylan, I sang this masterpiece of unity and joy across Germany. It is one of the greatest symphonies of all time and was conducted by Leonard Bernstein at the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and chosen to be the theme of the European Union. In our theatrical world, it is known by the rousing number whose melody is taken from the Symphony’s, 4th movement the song “Joyful Joyful, We Adore Thee” from the musical Sister Act. After my son was born, whenever he cried, I would play that incredible symphony that he heard in utero, and he would immediately become still, soothed by the richness and power of the sounds he knew and his mom’s voice singing the soprano solo part.

Fast forward to when my son was 13. He was competing in a major voice contest in Germany and was navigating the transition from childhood to young adulthood as his voice began to change a week before his semifinal audition. The timing was not ideal and yet with this physical challenge, we got to experience firsthand the bowls’ gentle support during a most vulnerable time in his life. He toned with them. They helped keep his voice open and helped him stay grounded. I witnessed my son as faced the shift of his vocal range with strength and ease. When he stood up to sing, he introduced himself with confidence and humor, announcing, “Hello, my name is Dylan, and as of one week, I am no longer a soprano.” The audience chuckled!

Another experience that opened my eyes to the healing potential of sound with the singing bowls was with one of my voice students who was also in the same contest as Dylan. She had a blockage in her upper register, and as we worked with the singing bowls, she entrained her voice with them, and remarkably, her voice completely opened up. In the process, she remembered a long-buried childhood trauma and expressed it. That moment revealed the depth at which sound could reach into the soul. She ended up winning the 2nd prize in her age group. These first experiences taught me that music and sound can heal in ways beyond words—moments that I now know can be called music medicine.

Crystal healing bowls became part of your recovery process after a tragic loss. How did sound healing impact your grief and help you reconnect with yourself?

Crystal Singing Bowls became a powerful part of my journey toward healing after I lost my beloved son in 2015. Sound healing didn’t just impact my grief—it allowed me to breathe it, to feel it, to process it, and ultimately, to transform it. The purity of the Crystal Singing Bowls helped me find my way back to the core of myself, even as I felt shattered, my heart broken into pieces. After such a loss out of the normal timing of life, it’s hard to imagine ever feeling whole again.

Yet through crystalline sound, I found a safe space to breathe and feel the enormity of my grief, which at first felt impossible to touch. It was so vast and overwhelming that it seemed beyond feeling. I was numb and in shock. Grief can be so challenging. One day, I played a selenite alchemy bowl for about 50 minutes. At times it sounded like screeching, like nails on a chalkboard. I kept playing it and making sounds with my voice. I realized much later that the screeching was the bowl reflecting my pain and despair. As I went to the bathroom to wash my face, I looked up at the mirror and saw my reflection, and to my surprise, there was light in my eyes— there was joy. It was the first time I had seen that since my son had passed. The bowls allowed me to enter into the grief, befriend it, keen, groan, and let the sounds carry what words could not. I began to release. Unknowingly I entered the world of sound healing.

As a single mother who lost your only child, you bring a deeply personal element to your healing work. How has your personal experience shaped the way you connect with others through sound?

My journey through the grief of losing my only child in 2015 has profoundly shaped how I connect with others through sound.

Sound and music are universal languages, and music, which every human being can understand no matter what our culture, language, or beliefs. Music is the language of the heart. Music is love. To be immersed in the resonance of the crystal singing bowls feels like love expressed in its purest form, and it allows me to create deep experiences and connections with those who come to my sound baths and my private sessions. In my work, I bring presence, an open heart, kindness, compassion, and integrity. I bring the structure of music. Every sound bath is held with a deep, unwavering intention to support transformation and healing at the highest level—especially for emotions that may feel too painful to touch and physical pains. Sound creates a safe, sacred space, a container where we can experience and release all that is longing to be felt in order to transform. Through this process, we can let go, elevate our consciousness, and connect to the Divine in a deeper, more expansive way, free from the drama of our human stories.

How does the science behind sound healing explain the profound effects people report, especially in mental health and chronic illness settings?

Scientific research has already shown us the profound impact music and sound vibration can have, particularly in areas like mental health and chronic illness. Sound has been found to help balance our hormonal system, reducing cortisol levels and promoting deep relaxation. When used with intention, sound can help us center ourselves and feel a deep sense of peace, especially in times of stress, anxiety, and overwhelm. It has even been shown to increase leukocytes in the blood, boosting the immune system, while also stimulating oxytocin—the “happy hormone”—and dopamine. Sound works on our bodies in subtle, yet transformative ways, allowing us to truly let go and relax.

One of the most powerful effects of sound is that it enables us to tap into our subconscious mind, bypassing the conscious mind, which can be relentlessly chattering, fearful, or judgmental. In this relaxed state, we connect to a deeper part of ourselves, to our very soul. While sound may not offer a cure for every ailment, it can help bring healing. Through sound, we can find acceptance, trust in a bigger picture of our lives, and inner peace —a powerful form of healing in itself.

In Sacred Vibrations, you share practices for self-healing through sound. What is one simple technique readers can use to start incorporating sound healing in their everyday lives?

Using the power of your own voice and humming can be very profound. Hum up and down starting from low to to high, moving your voice from your toes up the central channel of your body and out the top of your head, and imagining moving through any blockages or stuck energies as you resonate and hum.

How does the use of crystal bowls specifically influence the healing process, compared to other forms of sound healing? And why is it so important that people use and experience a sound bath with a professional sound healer and quality bowls?

Crystal alchemy singing bowls have a distinct impact on the healing process, setting them apart from other sound healing instruments. We are excited to have begun research with the Minerva Institute in San Francisco, acclaimed as the #1 most innovative university in the world for 3 consecutive years. Made from pure quartz, these singing bowls are fired at high temperatures and infused with precious gemstones, metals, minerals, and earth substances. These “alchemies”  resonate with different areas of the body, and because our bones and blood have a quartz-like structure, our bodies are naturally receptive to the bowls’ sound.

The sound of crystal alchemy singing bowls is both ethereal and grounding, helping us access expanded states of consciousness while staying connected to the earth through quartz’s stabilizing properties. Experiencing a sound bath with a skilled sound healer is essential, as music’s effect depends greatly on tone, key, melody, and the quality of the bowls.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Jhené Aiko, and Jada Pinkett Smith are some of your supporters. How have these collaborations influenced your work and brought greater awareness to sound healing?

All three of these women are way showers in their fields and I dearly love them. I am grateful for our connection. I have learned to trust, show up, and play with heart and presence, finding what fits exactly to them and the situation in the moment. Their encouragement and support of my work have been wonderful to receive. I have so enjoyed building Jhené Aiko’s singing bowl instrument sets, playing performances with her, and supporting her in adding and arranging bowls in her music (such as the Chilombo album). I have learned so much working alongside her in the music industry, supporting her ‘Modern Mantra’ as my angel son called it, Alive and Well, The Triggered Protection Mantra, Calm and Patient. It is inspiring to see this music medicine being received and accepted by a much wider audience.

Your book draws on insights from leading scientists and sound healing practitioners. Can you share a key piece of wisdom or research from these experts that particularly resonated with you?

I loved envisioning the future with them all, both the therapeutic side of sound and the development of music with new genres coming out of unlikely collaborations and compositions. (Like our meditative single “Joy Reboot.” Be sure to listen to it and watch the music video). I loved sharing with all of them. Each one brought a different wisdom that I gratefully included in my book. Humming, Tuning, Forks, Mantra, Neuroscience, History of Sound, Bioenergetics, Cymatics, and more, all perfectly complement the work with the singing bowls, presented by myself and some of my practitioners.

You’re a classically trained musician—what aspects of traditional music have carried over into your sound healing practice, and what new practices have you had to learn?

My classical training deeply informs my approach to sound healing, adding a strong foundation of musicality and coherence to my sound baths. I keep my focus on harmonic structure, elegance, and presence, creating a beautiful fusion of music discipline with the intuitive, expansive realm of sound healing. The adaptability needed for working with Crystal Alchemy Singing Bowls, from selecting notes and transitions to exploring dynamics and even bridging keys, mirrors the journey of mastering any new instrument. The integration of alchemies adds another dimension, allowing for even more nuanced emotional and energetic layers. I absolutely love the combination of the rigor of classical music and the openness and creativity of sound immersions with the crystal alchemy singing bowls. The challenge is to create structure, form, harmony, and beauty by allowing the presence of the heart in combination with masterful technique and the theory of music.

As one of the pioneers in sound healing, how do you see the field evolving over the next few years?

As a leader and pioneer in sound healing with crystal alchemy singing bowls, I have witnessed a remarkable evolution in the field over the past nine years. I envision a future where sound is used increasingly as medicine, offering young people an alternative to prescriptions that often mask their inner struggles. With sound, they can find the courage to feel, express, release, and restore their natural harmony and balance.

I also see sound healing becoming a recognized approach for conditions like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Depression, Anxiety, and PTSD—areas we’re already exploring. At Stanford  University, groundbreaking research shows that sound can stimulate new heart cells, opening possibilities that reach far beyond what we once imagined. Music speaks to every human heart, and true healing happens when we can support ourselves in becoming stronger, more resilient, and filled with love.

What advice would you offer to those who are new to sound healing but want to explore its potential benefits?

I suggest they explore our free library of healing music and crystalline meditations on our YouTube channel Crystal Cadence. They can join our Sacred Science of Sound Members Portal to learn and integrate more and they can explore our educational and experiential App, Source - Be Inspired. If they are interested specifically in studying to become a practitioner or integrating singing bowls into their music, or purchasing their own set of bowls, they can find all our offerings on www.crystalcadence.com.

In Sacred Vibrations, you emphasize sound as a powerful tool for inner transformation. What is the core message you hope readers take away from your book?

Through my book, Sacred Vibrations, I hope readers find true inspiration and recognize that sound and music offer profound healing possibilities. My wish is that from my very intimate journey, they feel empowered to bridge the realms of heaven and earth, opening their hearts to miracles. Love goes beyond time and space, and as quantum science shows us we are made of energy, sound vibration, and light and we are indeed eternal. (Please watch the 20 min film included in the book assets accessible through the  QR code on page 233)

I hope readers experience that music is a form of medicine that can reach places where traditional remedies cannot. In those moments when we need to journey deeply within, even when it feels daunting,  music can create a safe space to breathe and feel and process and heal. I want readers to understand that sound healing is both art and science, grounded in knowledge, integrity, the power of structure, and creative flow.

How would you describe the legacy you hope to build within the field of sound healing and holistic health?

I envision a legacy in the field of sound healing and holistic health that is inspired by my lifelong passion for music and sacred sound vibration with the profound healing capabilities inherent in the Crystal Alchemy Singing Bowls. My hope is to share sound as a transformative tool reaching people on the deepest levels, supporting emotional healing, physical well-being, and spiritual growth. Through compassionate guidance and intentional sound baths, I aspire to create safe spaces where individuals can connect with their inner selves, find release, live fully the lives they were born to live, and embrace their wholeness.

By weaving my knowledge of music with the unique resonance of the alchemy singing bowls, I aim to inspire a new standard of sound healing practice—one rooted in both technical mastery and heartfelt intention. I want to equip future sound healers with the skills and understanding needed to make a meaningful impact, expanding the field’s reach and demonstrating the true power of sound to transform, heal, uplift, expand our consciousness, and connect us to the Divine.

What is your favorite quote and why?

In my book, I use many of my favorite quotes. I love the quote from Martha Graham to Agnes de Mille about keeping the channel open.

I love the quote from Rainer Maria Rilke about patience. I love the quote “To whom much is given, much will be required” which was embossed on a magnet hung on our refrigerator door since I was young. It inspired me then and still does to be the best I can be, using my gifts and talents to their highest expression of good for the betterment of humanity.
